Note that Complete Directions for the Sewn Mask, as well as the No-Sew version, are on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Web Site.

TOOLS, TECHNIQUES, and HIGHLIGHTS from the MASK PROJECT

This section highlights elements of the mask project that may be helpful to keep in mind whether you are producing your own cloth face mask, or working on a totally different challenge, in the future.

  • NO SEW FACE MASK (Using CDC-recommended technique)

    • A Quick, Effective Solution requiring NO SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT!

    • Complex Solutions to Design Challenges are not always the best solutions. "Necessity is the mother of Invention"

  • PREPARATION IS THE KEY - Pressing, Planning, Pinning, Preparing.

    • Take a bit of Extra Time in the Beginning - It will Save Time in the End!

  • SPECIALIZED TOOLS - Rotary Cutter

    • Though not necessary, many tasks are easier, safer, or produce better results when one has access to tools that are designed specifically for the task.

  • ANATOMY OF A SEWING MACHINE

    • The basic design of the sewing machine has remained unchanged for over one-hundred years.

    • Even if you never sew, some of the vocabulary and concepts may be helpful wherever your interests and talents may take you.

Note that additional content will be released over the next several days detailing specifics that may be useful if you choose to attempt the sewn version of the masks, as detailed on the Centers for Disease Control web site.
